Hey all, just a reminder that session today does not start until about 7:30PM. There is a Cinco De Mayo celebration going on at The Rock from 4:30PM – 7:00PM, but everyone is more than welcome to come early to enjoy in the festivities. On the agenda is a special performance from some members of Lost Existence and Motion Monsters and….FREE FOOD! bv

As much as I think I hustle, there are people that make my efforts look like a walk in the park. In the weeks leading up to FAME, John Agcaoili {DSOTM} had already traveled to Los Angeles and Texas several times. About a month has passed since the event and I’ve had trouble catching him because he’s either been in Japan or Los Angeles. Watch him at work below in some behind the scenes footage of his most recent photo shoot.

A friend of mine and very dedicated student of hip hop, Son Chau, will be the liaison for UC Berkeley’s Asian/Pacific Islander organizations at Hip Hop in the Park. The event is in its 14th year and so far there’s almost 1,500 people ‘confirmed’ to go according to Facebook. If you don’t have any plans for the weekend try to stop by and check it out. You might even spot Son Chau popping on the corner of a street! bv

Tonight, I’ll be hosting my first open gym at Vega’s Integrated Tumbling from 8:00PM-10:00PM. Everyone is required to fill out a waiver form, which will be provided on site, and pay an admission fee of $5.00 for each visit. For now, the open gym will only run the last Monday’s of the month in conjunction with The Dirty Dozen battles at Alum Rock Youth Center, so come through! bv

Freestyle Session ranks among the most prestigious events of hip hop. Last summer, The Squadron battled their way to first place. With that came along $20,000 in cash and prizes, bragging rights, and respect. According to Mex, TheBboyspot President and Co-Owner of Biggest&Baddest Clothing, the crew consists of Beastmode, Keebz, Kid David, Luigi, Namek, Roxrite, Squid, Spee-D, and our very own Nasty Ray. Just a reminder, next Monday, April 26 will be the first open gym at Vega’s Integrated Tumbling from 8:00PM-10:00PM. Open gyms at these facilities are usually $10.00, but I worked out a deal so that everyone can get in for $5.00. Come through and work on your flips, airflares, or whatever moves you’ve been neglecting because of those hardwood floors! bv

Last week, Nasty Ray sent me some pictures of him on the set of a McDonald’s commercial. Hopefully this means he’s making some noise and gaining some stability down in Los Angeles. I’m not sure when the commercial will start airing but I’ll keep everyone posted if and when I hear something. BV

A few months ago, Mark Sebastian introduced me to Nick Ngo of The Bangerz {formerly known as The Fingerbangerz}. Since then, Nick has taken time out of his busy schedule on several occasions to share his experiences and guide me with his knowledge of the music industry. Now, he’s in Los Angeles working with the Jabbawockeez on Mus.I.C., which will be premiering on May 7 at the MGM Grand Hollywood Theatre in Las Vegas. For as long as I can remember, the Duong’s have been avid supporters of anything and everything I do. Word on the street is that the City of San Jose is planning to close down 22 community centers {Alum Rock Youth Center included}, cut back library hours to 3 days a week, close down all city pools, and layoff 700 or so employees sometime soon. With that being the case, programs like the one where I work at, Hip Hop 360, don’t have much chance of staying alive. Shoot, they might as well cut back school to 3 days a week while they’re at it.
